Raise the puppy. We'll cover the rest.
Puppy raising is the biggest gift a volunteer can give this organization — and the best-supported. You take a Hearts of Gold puppy home for roughly sixteen to eighteen months and give it an ordinary, loving life: errands, doorbells, school pickups, quiet evenings. That everyday world is the foundation every service and therapy dog is built on.
No experience is needed, and all home types are welcome — apartments, farms, families, singles, retirees. We teach you everything at group classes and stay close with one-on-one coaching. The organization covers the puppy's food, veterinary care, and training costs; you provide the home, the time, and the heart.
A morning walk practicing calm past the neighbor's cat. A nap under your desk. Fifteen minutes of name games after lunch, a trip to the hardware store where nothing scary happens, and an evening settle on a mat while the family eats. None of it is complicated — it is just consistent, and it is quietly building a working dog.
“How do you ever give them up?”
With tears — every raiser, every time. And every raiser will tell you it was worth it. You are not losing a dog; you are handing someone else years of independence that your year made possible. Many raisers meet their puppy's new partner at graduation and sign up for the next puppy on the way out the door.
Can't raise one? Name the journey instead.
Sponsors follow one dog from puppyhood to placement: monthly photo-and-progress updates, first word when your puppy passes a milestone, and an invitation to graduation when the leash changes hands. Your monthly gift carries that dog's real, everyday costs.
Keeps a puppy in treats, toys, and training supplies — the small stuff that shapes a big career.
Covers a month of food for a growing puppy — the most literal way to fuel the journey.
Carries a month of veterinary care and training costs — the full weight of one puppy's month.
A monthly gift is how sponsorship works today — choose a dog or a fund and give monthly. Named sponsorship packages are still coming; tell us you're interested and you'll be first to hear.
Give to the Puppy FundAn hour helps. A weekend helps more.
Not every role takes a year and a half. These do the quiet work that keeps the whole pipeline moving.

However you give — a home, an hour, a gift — thank you.
Somewhere in Missouri tonight, a puppy is asleep in a volunteer's home, partway to changing someone's life. You just moved them closer.
